When her husband dies and leaves her with nothing, Zama Marawa’s world turns from wine and dine to do or die. Khanyi Mbau plays the lead role in this proudly South African thriller which tackles physical and
sexual abuse as well as human trafficking, alarmingly prominent social issues that the country is still grappling with in 2019. Directed by Sans Moonsamy, Red Room tells the story of a woman whose world comes crumbling down after the death of her husband; a rich Jozi businessman.
She finds herself homeless and pregnant and is saved by a good Samaritan who takes her to a woman’s shelter, God’s Haven. The place seems to be safe but underneath the haven disguise, lies a dark and sinister world. Zama now finds herself trapped in the dangerous world of human trafficking. Songstress, Cici Twala also features in this film alongside Nick Soul, Pakamisa Zwedala, Isidingo’s Audrey Poo who plays corrupt pastor turned politician, Gabriel Mothusi.
The film opens in cinemas nationwide on the today. If the trailer is anything to go by, the
movie is sure to take us on a journey of suspense.
