Free Burma Rangers is the true story of a remarkable family compelled by Christ to bring love into war. This epic documentary chronicles the 20-year journey of the Free Burma Rangers, an unconventional humanitarian organization, as they venture through jungles, firefights, heroic rescues, and find hope in seemingly impossible situations. It’s a real life action-adventure film unlike any you’ve seen before.
The film follows the unbelievable journey of missionaries Dave, Karen, and their three young children, as they venture into war zones like Burma (Myanmar) and Iraq where they fight to bring hope. Dave Eubank is a rare hero of the faith, a former U.S. Special Forces soldier turned missionary. He says, “I have no other plan, just go. Go to the sound of the guns, go to the sound of need, and trust God to show you how you can be useful.” Viewers follow the family into firefights, heroic rescues, and get to experience life-changing ministry. In the midst of this unprecedented journey, we witness amazing lessons of faith from one of the most inspiring families in the world.
TODAY, the Free Burma Rangers offer help, hope and love to internally displaced people around the world. They make it their mission to bring aid to those who are affected by conflict, and to get the word out to the wider world about what’s happening on the ground. Their media team started as one person with a borrowed camera, and now they have camera operators embedded with teams all over the globe, contributing to their tons of archived footage. When the idea was born to turn their true story into a feature film, experienced documentary makers, and co-directors of this film, Brent Gudgel and Chris Sinclair waded through over 3,000 hours of film spanning two decades, then seamlessly wove it together with interviews with Dave, Karen, their kids and other members of their teams. The personal re-telling of each situation, accompanied by real life footage, makes you feel like you’re right there.
Free Burma Rangers was released in the US in early 2020, and quickly became the highest grossing documentary of the year. The movie won Best Feature Film at the 2019 Justice Film Festival in New York, and over a thousand 5-star Amazon reviews make this a must-see movie. Author, speaker and pastor Francis Chan says it’s his “favourite film of all time.” Crosswalk calls it a “real-life action-adventure movie” and The Christian Post says it “truly illustrates Christianity in action.”
