Johannesburg, South Africa (04 April) — The second night of the Red Bull Music Festival delivered a Round Robin evening for jazz lovers at The Orbit in Braamfontien, one of Joburg’s prominent jazz clubs.
The atmosphere was electric as the room filled up with anticipation, simply turning this evening into one of the most musically memorable; when the likes of Luyanda Madope,Bonj Mpanza, Keorapetse Kolwane and Tshepo Tsotetsi took to the stage.
Kolwane, made a profound and fitting dedication to the Mother of the Nation, Mam’ Winnie Madikizela -Mandela.The Orbit saw artists collaborating in a Round Robin format of freestyle; which is a daring musical improvisation that challenges artists to creatively collaborate and perform together for the first time, completely unrehearsed. The sound that emanated from this session delighted music lovers and festivalgoers in a never-to-be-heard again auditory experience.

This beautiful evening crescendoed into a beautiful clash of scats and virtuosic performances when this incredible roster of vocalists and instrumentalists such as Marcus Wyatt, Benjamin Japhta and Clem Carr climaxed into a medley of songs.

Closing off the evening was the dynamic Zara Julius alongside DJ Okapi, who provided the perfect cadence to an exceptional evening of music, playing some of their favourite and most beloved vinyls.

The Festival continues with more unexpected offerings when the Reggae & Dance Hall giants Jahseed and Admiral take to the stage at Bassline on Thursday, 5 April 2018. The rest of the week includes performances by Trompies at Waar Was Jy? at Republic of 94 on Friday, April 6 and UK Grime superstar Skepta at Fox Junction on Saturday, April 7.

More musical delights will be heard throughout the week until Sunday night across various venues in Johannesburg.

Red Bull Music Festival Johannesburg is a global celebration of 20 years of the Red Bull Music Academy. The Academy is a world-traveling series of music workshops and festivals. Festivalgoers of all ages visiting the city will undoubtedly celebrate Johannesburg in its legendary light. The festival has been held in various cities including Los Angeles, New York City and Paris and espouses the values of the RBMA: to create, collaborate and celebrate the SA music scene.
