@HUNGANINDLOVU | The Importance of Collaborations

The Importance of Collaborations within the Entertainment Industry.
Let’s first define the word ‘collaboration’ so that we’re all on the same page.

Collaboration
noun
1. The action of working with someone to produce something.
i.e. “he wrote a book in collaboration with his son”
synonyms:
cooperation, alliance, partnership, combination.

The challenge that I think we’re facing in the industry is that, we have many talented people that are doing great things and have great ideas (which isn’t the challenge obviously) but we fall short on working with one another to produce greater works. This may not apply to every single individual in the industry. We all want to better the quality in which South African artists are treated when it comes to our rates, on set situations, content that is produced, global reach and so forth, and my thoughts are… if we as artists can understand that we all have a common goal in seeing the growth of the South African industry, would it not be more effective for us to highlight each other’s strengths in order to help progress the growth.

So in highlighting each other’s strengths, we then know that when it comes to doing a certain type of genre, the best person to ask is A and when it comes to creating the actual product the best person to ask is B, and to produce it is C. All in all we are working together to create better quality of work and also uplifting one another at the same time. We need to be each other’s support structures in the industry because if we don’t support one another and all be in unison then it’s a lot easier for us to be taken advantage of because we all in this individually. And please don’t miss understand me, I’m not saying we need to form a union or anything of that nature. But let’s glorify one another when we can see that, A is doing great stuff. And as A don’t be closed off on giving others advice when and where you can in order to grow the next artist.

I believe that working together is one of the best things that can happen to our industry. Sometimes it’s just the passing down of knowledge that can change someone’s end result.
