Nomzamo Mbatha The true queen of African modern style
Actress Nomzamo Mbatha has taken the African aesthetic and completely modernized it, finding the perfect balance between heritage and relevance.
Rina Chunga, the Zambian designer behind the clothing line Rich Factory, is the mastermind behind almost all of Mbatha’s African looks, and there couldn’t have been a better partnership. In fact, one could go as far as saying it is the African version of what television presenter Bonang Matheba has with designer Gert-Johan Coetzee, a partnership that’s beneficial for both parties involved.
In one previous interview, Chunga said that she wanted Africans to see that their traditional attire and traditional fabrics were not only meant for weddings, but could be incorporated into everyday modern life.
I like to design with it [African print], have fun with it. I still want it to be very modern and not just modern like the shirt I am earing today – not just a normal everyday skirt,” she explained.
