Actor Spaces teamed up with Monologue Mondays at the Wits School of Arts
the past week; with eight actors; eight monologues; one director and a theme.
Monologue Mondays is an experimental acting event that takes place every first Monday of the month.
It is an opportunity for actors to showcase their skills in front of an audience and leading up to the event, the actors learn a monologue that is in line with the month’s theme.
The actors have three rehearsals during which together with the month’s director, they are tasked to put a show together.
On the 3rd of April, Actor Spaces in association with Monologue Mondays, worked on the theme:
‘Rebirth’, with Actor Spaces founder; Ayanda Sithebe as the director.
Andiswa Mpinda, founder of Monologue Mondays says she is glad to have entrusted Ayanda with the responsibility of gluing the pieces together.
She expressed that together with the actors, he did more justice to the theme than she had imagined it to turn out.
“The commitment shown by the actors, immersing themselves in the world of the show, was my biggest highlight”
The event is part of a larger conversation around audience development for South African Theatre.
Mm had its pilot on the 5th of December at the J&B Hive in Johannesburg.
The space brings a refreshing sense of renewal to an old art.
Mpinda adds that the response to Mm has been overwhelming and that people are excited to know of such a space and to experience its growth.
Well-done to the artists who took to the stage with their monologues; Ivan Andre; Zanele Siko; Amo Helang; Mandisa Vundla, Nyakallo Motloung; Mlungisi Mlugwana; and Khotatso Khumo Mogwera.
