The PMA is a membership-driven Association that implements and facilitates ethical best practice and communication among Agents/Managers and all role-players in the entertainment industry for the benefit of professional talent and the industry as a whole. An important note to actors looking for an agent, be careful as there are scammers who are not professional agents but will attempt to convince you they are legitimate.
Here are a few tips to make sure your in a legitimate Agency:
- Never ever pay a legitimate agency money for signing up with them. If they sign you – they believe in your talent and cannot make you pay a fee (except commission on work they book for you).
- Most legitimate agencies will have a website where you can see the actors they represent
- Most legitimate agencies do not “WhatsApp” or SMS you an entire brief and briefs will not be written in shorthand / sms language.
- Research the agency before setting up a meeting to meet them. Agents are merely facilitators in your acting journey and cannot guarantee you work or “fame”.
- Lastly- it is a good idea to listen to your intuition / gut feel – and most often than not – if it sounds too good to be true, It most likely is too good to be true.
