Applications for the National Arts Festival Fringe 2018 are now open. The festival has been an integral part of the South African artistic landscape and is said to be the the largest platform for artistic expression on the continent, weaving people together through theatre, music, film and visual art. “The event has always been open to all regardless of race, colour, sex or creed. As no censorship or artistic restraint has ever been imposed on works presented in Grahamstown”

The National Arts Festival Fringe runs from the 28th of June to the 8th of July 2018, with four categories to choose from. Independent events and venues need to apply to the Fringe in order to be included in the Festival Programme.

Last year’s programme featured plays like Tau; Poetry Cries: a musical drama that exposes the inhumane acts a human can inflict on another; Mike van Graan’s satirical revue ‘Pay Back The Curry’ and ‘Sacred Space’ performed by the Cape Dance Company. The Fringe has created room for diversity on its platform to suite a wide range of audiences and their palates.

Over the years, the festival has become a space that cultivates the magic shared when art and culture coincide.
2018 marks the 44th edition of the festival.
