ACTOR OF THE WEEK | ZOLISA XALUVA

Article by Kea Zawadi

This week’s Actor of the Week goes to the impeccable thespian, Zolisa Xaluva for his role as Melusi on Gomora.

Xaluva is also popularly known for his role as Jason on SABC1 Soapie Generations and Lwazi Mboweni on SABC1’s Tsha Tsha S4.

Gomora is based on two families in two completely different lifestyles being brought together by tragedy. The series is filmed in the Alexandra township. Xaluva plays Melusi Dlamini who is an upright school principal who had a previous relationship with Thati (Katlego Danke) and is now married to Gladys ( Thembi Seete)

Xaluva has been consistent with his character and made choices worthy to be celebrated in this production.

This week, we highlight his scene with Ntokozo (Ntobeko Sishii) and Gladys, after Ntokozo almost lost his life. We’d expect to see relief in Xaluva’s eyes… but we see conflict. Had he answered Thati’s phone call, he perhaps would have been able to stop the mess but out of respect for his wife, he didn’t answer. We see the weight in his eyes, his posture. Hardly saying anything, his body language speaks volumes.

An actor tells a story and Xaluva has made himself a vessel to the story of Melusi.

We applaud his work.
