This week’s Actor of the Week goes to the multi-talented South African actor and producer, Sindi Dlathu for her role Lindiwe Dikana on the award winning telenovela The River on 1 Magic.
Sindi Dlathu is best known for her role as Thandaza Buthelezi on Muvhango SABC 2 from 1997 to 2018. She currently plays the role of Lindiwe Dlamini Dikana on The River 1 magic as the villain who will do whatever it takes to protect her family from enemies.
The River is set in Pretoria and chronicles the lives of the Dlaminis and Mokoenas, two families from disparate origins who are drawn together and separated by the finding of a diamond near Cullinan, just outside of Pretoria. This is a South African telenovela about extreme wealth and extreme poverty, The two families who are linked by secrets, murder, and treachery as they fight for control of the country. In the 5th Season of The River, Lindiwe cheats on Zweli (Played by Hlomla Dandala) and he finds out the truth in a matter of time.
In the scene Lindiwe finally pours out her heart to Zweli, She is tired of being seen as strong and always keeping matters of her marriage under control. In the beginning of the scene, her status is on number 10 as she has her shoulders moved back unafraid, standing in posture, pointing at Zweli and telling him how he has been unfair in their marriage. Towards the end of the scene Lindiwe’s status moves down to number 5 as Zweli’s goes higher to number 10, she is more vulnerable, wary and grim with soft tears rolling down her eyes. The use of her shaky voice and breath control is exceptional as she still manages to utter every word. Breath and voice are intimately connected and her breathing responds and reacts to her thoughts and feelings.
Her authenticity and commitment to storytelling is truly remarkable.
